On a hot summer night in Detroit in 1982, an autoworker named Ronald Ebens killed Vincent Chin, a young Chinese American draftsman, with a baseball bat. Although Ebens confessed, he never spent a day in jail. Join us for a rare public screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary WHO KILLED VINCENT CHIN?, followed by a talkback with legendary civil rights icon HELEN ZIA in her first public appearance in NJ in years. Journalist Taylor Jung of NJ Spotlight News will moderate a conversation about the multiracial, multifaith coalition that came together to fight for justice, the impact of this historic hate crime on the Asian American community then and now, and its parallels and lessons for us today. Teachers who attend the screening will receive PD credit, a discussion guide, and a special gift through Teach Asian American Stories.
